Selden Rodman papers relating to Thomas and Klaus Mann, 1932-1971.

Collection consists of correspondence to Selden Rodman from members of the Mann family and writings by or relating to Thomas Mann. There are seven letters from Thomas Mann, twenty-four letters from Klaus Mann, and single letters from Katia and Golo Mann. Most letters date from the 1930s and 1940s, during which time Rodman served as an editor at Common Sense, and some letters concern contributions to the magazine. Writings include: a corrected, typescript draft of a letter to the editor by Thomas Mann, entitled "Wagner and Germany"; a corrected carbon of an essay on Thomas Mann by Rodman; and a printed version of an article on Mann by William Troy. Most documents in the collection are burnt at the edges and there is some loss of text.
